被收录到“EI来源刊目录”（COMPENDEX SOURCE LIST -- JOURNALS -- 2012）中的期刊才是EI源刊。EI库收录的论文包括EI来源刊上发表的论文，标注为JA（期刊论文）。它还收录一些国际会议论文集的论文及国际会议同时被某一期刊发表（会议期刊型）的论文，都标注为CA 。
