duvet是英语，指其他羽绒，往往不是鸭绒或鹅绒。此外，waterfowl指天然鸭绒，autres-lumes指其他小羽毛，feather指翎羽。这些都是织物专有词汇。由此可见填充物里不含羽毛，有些羽绒服会标明不同种类羽绒的所占百分比。
羽绒服中的填充物，最常见的是鹅绒和鸭绒，这两种按颜色分，又可分为白绒和灰绒。在市面上的羽绒服按照价格来看，排序为：白鹅绒>灰鹅绒>白鸭绒>灰鸭绒。可能受到售价排序的影响，很多人因此就认为这些绒在质量上也是这样排序，其实不然。通过对羽绒方面的理论研究和实际体验，一般来说相同质量和含绒量的鹅绒比鸭绒的保暖性、蓬松度等好些，但笔者觉得颜色与羽绒服质量的好坏没有太大的关系。
至于为什么白色的绒会贵一些，我觉得主要原因是因为白色的绒比灰色的好看，不管在浅色还是深色的面料里面都不透色；而灰色的绒比较挑，只羽绒服能放在深色面料中。考虑到白色颜色浅，适宜面料范围更广。第二点原因：白绒的纤维构造原因。其纤维组织相对而言较细、软、长、纤维长使其蓬松度更好，更容易保暖。
